He says that it may have been a very big turning point in their relationship, having been in a situation where they were very vulnerable and let their guard down with each other.

Blue Bloods Spoilers – The Same, Yet Different

Donnie goes on to say that in some ways, Maria talked to Danny the same way she always has on Blue Bloods, but the feeling was deeper and more intense and because they were in such a dire situation, it finally came through. Danny had opened up more to her as well, having explained to her that after his brother Joe had died, he had promised himself to never let his guard down, and to always be the first one in and the last one out. He had further explained because of the intensity of it all, he had run off every partner except her, the previous ones viewing him as a hothead! Danny definitely realized how important Maria was to him on a much deeper level – and not only did their relationship evolved, Danny himself did. Donnie then says that as an actor, he made a choice in that moment to continue to carry that evolution forward through the rest of the season.
