Even before the Zorro announcement, rumors of Valderrama leaving NCIS surfaced when CBS announced the actor will executive produce its upcoming comedy “Mexican Beverly Hills” but the rumors subsided when they realized he’s not going to star in it.

However, when Disney announced last December 14 that Valderrama will not only executive produce the reboot, but also is cast to star as the lead himself Don Diego de la Vega, and his swashbuckling alter ego, masked horseman in black, Zorro, fans’ worries intensified.

“Does that mean you’re leaving NCIS?” a fan tried to get Valderrama’s answer on Instagram but until now, the celebrity and “NCIS” are tight-lipped about his decisions.

“Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero,” Valderrama said in a press release.

The action star pointed out he has responsibilities as an adult and a storyteller in the stories he portrays.

“To partner with Gary and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true,” he added.

The original Disney-ABC “Zorro” series in the 1950s were set to be in the days of Spanish California, the upcoming reimagined series will have a modern touch to it as documented by Variety.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television explained that although the reimagined series will be told in a very modern telenovela style, it still holds the Disney classic as “a compelling period piece” set in Pueblo de Los Angeles.

“Wilmer shares our commitment to reflect the interesting and rich diversity of the human experience and we look forward to delivering a culturally relevant and entertaining story with definitional characters that will connect with our viewers for generations to come,” Davis said.

But even with his new projects, Valderrama hasn’t failed to thrill the “NCIS” fans when he posted an update on Instagram: “We cooking storms and I’m in awed! … We got some EPIC episodes coming to your homes!! I can not WAIT to blow your minds!”
