Law & Order: Special Victims Unit spoilers tease that in the crossover event with the premiere of Law & Order: Organized Crime, Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) will partially explain why he left SVU to Fin Tutola (Ice T).
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Spoilers – Olivia Benson & Elliot Stabler Crossover
The promotional Law & Order Organized Crime trailer for the crossover event which will air on April 1 appears to show Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Stabler’s former partner and her team, including Fin, out on a call. From a distance, Benson spots Stabler, and they soon get together to reconnect.
Stabler tries to explain why he left SVU so suddenly, which was a good ten years ago. The teaser doesn’t go into depth, but perhaps more will be revealed in the actual broadcast. Stabler basically tells Fin that he was waiting for the right time to reach out, asking if he understands how so much time has passed that he felt he couldn’t reach out?
Stabler continues, saying how days turn into months, then months turn into years, and the right time apparently had never come – so there they are! Benson and Stabler were very close, and it upset her when he just suddenly left the SVU unit without telling her goodbye. A flashback scene shows when Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) told her Elliot had put in his resignation papers, and there was nothing Cragen could do to stop him.
It was never said in the subsequent Law & Order episodes whether Elliot’s exit was personal or if it was business-related; although he and his wife Kathy Stabler (Isabel Gillies) had been having some problems not long before his decision to leave. They had reconciled, but things were still tense. The couple had five children in all, with Kathy and two of the older children set to appear in the premiere of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Spoilers – Elliot Stabler Returns To The NYPD After A Devastating Loss
Law & Order spoilers tease Stabler will return to the NYPD after a devastating loss, but the loss is not explained in the promo. It appears Stabler had not only left SVU, but police work in general for those ten years he has been gone. Stabler will see many changes in police procedures and ways of dealing with criminals. The criminal justice system itself is undergoing a time of reckoning, and exposing wrongdoing and wrong ways of dealing with people among themselves. In addition, Stabler will be dealing with his own challenges professionally as well as rebuilding his personal life, which is also full of challenges.

Elliot will be the head of a task force dealing with organized crime and their focus will be on dismantling these corrupt and illegal organizations. The original premiere of Law & Order: Organized Crime was supposed to be during NBC’s fall 2020 schedule, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is ongoing. Showrunner Warren Leight mentioned that sometime during the season, Stabler and his family’s challenges during the past ten years will be revealed, and the overdose of Benson’s brother Simon Marsden (Michael Weston) leading to his death may be re-examined as well.
