NCIS Season 19 Is Happening – Is It The Swansong?

NCIS Season 19 got the go-ahead and fans expect it to arrive in about September this year. Season 18 ended and the beloved character, Mark Harmon once again starred in his role of Leroy Gibbs. Reportedly, in the new season, CBS fans won’t see much of him at all. Possibly better than nothing, which was increasingly feared, if his appearances dwindle away, will fan still want more of the show? So, might the season become the swansong of the poplar show?

NCIS Execs Take It Year By Year With Mark Harmon

CBS execs seem rather tight-lipped on the reports that Season 19 only brings in Mark Harmon as Gibbs a handful of times. Historically, Harmon suggested he’d walk away from the show before the finale airs, whenever that might be. In fact, season after season, fans wait with bated breath to see if he returns. Actually, he seems to make his own decisions these days. At one stage, CBS entertainment chief Kelly Kahl said “we take it year by year with Mark.” They love working with him and fans love him even more.

NCIS without Gibbs seems just too out there for many fans to imagine. After all, in their minds, he is NCIS. Replacements never go down well. Sometimes, fans even feel traumatized when their favorite characters are being killed off or replaced. Briefly, word had it that Gary Cole might replace Gibbs in Season 19. Well, it turns out he is in the show but not as a replacement. Brought in as a regular in the role of  FBI Special Agent Alden Park, if Season 19 is the last, then he might not have a long career with the show. Of course, he might always feature in one of the spinoffs.

NCIS Season 19 Spoilers – Will The Season Be The Last For NCIS?

Over on Reddit, some CBS fans fear that Season 19 might be the last. Actually for a heartstopping moment, fans and thought that Gibbs died in Season 18 when his boat blew up However, the aging hero returns. Nevertheless,  fans wonder how much longer he features in the show. Some fans speculate that as the series potentially airs 438 episodes after Season 19, CBS might try for more seasons and climax on 500.

NCIS fans who hope for that target suggest the Mark Harom might continue in a limited role for another three seasons. Mind you, realists expect that the upcoming season might be the end. Or, at least the penultimate ending. Basically, it probably comes down to whether a single actor makes the show ratings. Perhaps with reduced appearances, the network can start gauging fans’ reactions to a transition to somebody new.

NCIS Season 19 – Time To Wrap It Up?

NCIS already has so many spinoffs, is the original still worth pushing? Without Mark, if he steps aside after Season 19, will people watch? Time will tell and possibly more news emerges after Season 19 airs.
