NCIS spoilers and updates tease that there’s still a chance that Mark Harmon may return to the show following his character, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibb’s dramatic exit.
Fans who have watched the October 11 episode titled Great Wide Open, have seen the character bid his farewell. But showrunner Steve Binder remains optimistic that the actor and his iconic alter ego will reappear on the show at the right time.

Binder was quoted in the show’s official Instagram account as saying, “As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show. Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go.”
He went on to say that for fans who have known the character over the years, they should “never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”
NCIS Spoilers – Jethro Gibbs Bids Farewell
In the latest NCIS episode, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) traveled to Alaska to solve a case involving a contract killer who’s been hired by a local company to get rid of anyone who tries to stop its plans of building a copper mine.
But when the time came that they had to go home, Gibbs made a shocking decision to stay. He said, “I’m not going back, Tim… I’m not going back home.”

When McGee asked what he’s looking for, Gibbs said he doesn’t know for now but his gut tells him that he’ll know once he finds it. Gibbs continued to explain that Alaska gave him a “sense of peace,” which he’s “not ready to let go.” It’s something that he hasn’t felt for a while since his first wife Shannon (Darby Stanchfield) and daughter Kelly (Mary Mouser).
He thanked McGee for always having his back for the past 18 years. Gibbs also informed NCIS Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) that he’s staying on The Last Frontier and he doesn’t know when or if he’ll return.
Gibb’s decision to surrender his badge came after his suspension and boat explosion in the finale of season 18. His departure still came as a surprise to many even though it was previously reported that Leroy Jethro Gibbs will have limited screen time in the latest season.
