When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found that the 97-year-old actor’s silver Lexus had collided with a gate, leaving Dyke with minor injuries. Luckily, the Malibu Police Department revealed that, even though there were bruises, he didn’t sustain any fatal injury.
He was said to have lost control of the car while driving his Lexus over wet streets in Malibu, California. He was given immediate treatment by a medic at the scene, before being driven home by a friend. Drugs and alcohol are not a factor in this accident. Dyke’s team is yet to respond to media inquiries.
Due to his advanced age, Dyke is being invited to retake his driving test to see if he can still safely drive a vehicle given his condition.
Just last month, the star made history by becoming the oldest contestant ever to appear on Fox singing show, “The Masked Singer.” Dressed in gnomish costume, he performed “When You’re Smiling,” during the first round of the show’s 9th season, but sadly didn’t make it very far before being unmasked.
As the holder of The Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Awards, Dick Van Dyke is among the most decorated actors. His career impressively spans over seven decades, although the 60s was when his popularity skyrocketed.
This is also not the actor’s first car accident. In 2013, he was rescued from a burning car on the California freeway, and although he did not sustain any serious injuries, his car was the worst for wear. He later joked about it on Twitter by sharing a picture of the damaged car, along with the caption: “Used Jag for sale REAL CHEAP!!”
