The Religious Cult Of The Duggars’ Family Exposed In New Explosive Prime Video Docuseries

There’s an upcoming docuseries set to expose every hidden aspect of the religion that the whole of the Duggar family was inducted into from the onset, or better put, for “as long as they can remember.”

The Duggar patriarch Jim Bob Duggar joined and inducted his family members into an ultrastrict religious group, known as “Institute in Basic Life Principles,” a church group that’s rather referred to as a “cult” that a church.

For some time now, some of the Duggar children (mostly the females), that managed to break out of the strict family religion pointed out that the greatest factor that ruined their family is the “Institute in Basic Life Principles.”

The greatest rebels of them all, Jill (Duggar) Dillard, and her cousin Amy (Duggsr) King with the help of some other unnamed people (both men and women) all came together to expose their controversial religion in a Prime Video Docuseries titled, “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets.”

In the recently released trailer which was acquired exclusively by PEOPLE, revealed how the organization negatively impacted not just the Duggars but a lot of other families that blindly followed the doctrines of IBLP founder Bill Gothard.

The series’ logline reads, “As details of the family and their scandals unfold, we realize they’re part of an insidious, much larger threat already in motion, with democracy itself in peril,” the new series.”

As the trailer began with an unknown man’s voice saying, “World domination was the goal.” And an unknown woman also added, “The IBLP teachings aren’t Christianity. They’re something entirely different.”

Jill, 32, who was in the clip in the company of her husband Derick Dillard was finally revealed and she said, “There’s a story that’s going to be told, and I would rather be the one telling it.” She continued, “We were part of IBLP as early as I can remember.”

A woman was heard saying, “The biggest feature of Bill Gothard’s teachings is authority. Kids obey the parents, wives obey their husbands, everyone obeys Bill Gothard.” A different man was heard saying, “Gothard turned every father into a cult leader and every home into an island.”

The trailer also touched on the aspect of their eldest brother Josh Duggar who’s currently in Seagoville penitentiary after being found guilty of knowingly receiving and possessing child pornography.

Explaining the title of the docuseries, a woman said, “The shiny, happy images is the sugar, and we’re all high on it. They were just deceiving us all.”

The docuseries “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” is set to premiere next month, June 2 on Prime Video.

The Duggars — Jinger Duggars’s Account

Early this year, one of the Duggar sisters Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo released a memoir titled, “Becoming Free Indeed: My Story of Disentangling Faith From Fear,” and shared with PEOPLE how she got out of IBLP.

“Fear was a huge part of my childhood, I thought I had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. Music with drums, places I went or the wrong friendships could all bring harm,” said Jinger in a Zoom interview with PEOPLE.

The reality tv star went on to share the harmful things and beliefs they were made to follow. The wrong teachings all came from the disgraced Bill Gothard and his Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) ministry.

Jinger said, “[Gothard’s] teachings in a nutshell are based on fear and superstition and leave you in a place where you feel like, ‘I don’t know what God expects of me,’ The fear kept me crippled with anxiety. I was terrified of the outside world.”

She also said, “His teachings were so harmful, and I’m seeing more of the effects of that in the lives of my friends and people who grew up in that community with me.”
