Who better to toot your horn than family, and Johnny Depp seems to have the backing of his star player: his own daughter Lily-Rose Depp.
Last week, Depp made headlines when he walked his first red carpet since the Amber Heard defamation lawsuit at Cannes festival France. Before going into the arena, he stopped to take selfies and sign autographs for fans.
But his best moment that night came at the end of his French-language movie’s premiere when the crowd took to their feet to appreciate the project.
It must have been a cathartic moment for him, especially after the controversies of the lawsuit and the fact that, according to him, many people stopped calling him at around that time.
Lily-Rose Depp – Reacts To Her Father’s Seven-minute Standing Ovation
Speaking virtually with ET’s Rachel Smith from the Cannes Film Festival in the South of France Tuesday, “The Idol” star revealed that she is very happy that her father for gets to do the projects he’s proud of.
“I’m super happy for him. I’m super excited,” Lily-Rose gushed. “And it’s so awesome that we get to do projects that we’re super proud of.”
The movie sees Depp play the role of French King Louis XV. Set in the 18th century, “Jeanne Du Barry,” follows the daughter of an impoverished seamstress, Jeanne Bécu (Maïwenn), as she rises through the Court of Louis XV to become his last official mistress.
Following the premiere, a Johnny Depp source revealed that the actor is starting to recover from the destructive habits that formerly troubled his family. “Johnny is doing fantastic. He really enjoys working and touring again. He has managed to turn his life around,” the source revealed, adding, “He is prioritizing his health and work.” The source also revealed that his family is proud of his improvements.
Lily-Rose Depp – On the Standing Ovation She Received For Her Work On “The Idol”
Lily-Rose Depp, 23, is not a stranger to receiving standing ovations herself, as the star was greeted with it following a screening of the first few episodes of her and The Weeknd’s (Abel Tesfaye) new Sam Levinson-directed HBO drama, “The Idol.”
“It was the first time that I had watched it with an audience outside of like, myself and Sam and Ashley and Abel, which is just kind of how I watched the first couple episodes,” She said. “But it was incredible. It felt like such a beautiful celebration and a culmination of everything that we’ve been through together, and just kind of a beautiful process that was in the show, and creating this little family together, and it just felt really, really nice.”
Lily-Rose continued, “Especially to get to celebrate together, and we’re just so happy for the response from the room. It felt really nice to watch the reaction and everything, and finally get to share something with the world that we’re all so proud of.”
While the film is yet to premiere, it has already received criticisms for its nudity graphic sex scenes and gritty depiction of the music industry. In the movie, Lily-Rose took the reins as a pop star who is just returning from a psychotic break following the death of her mother. As she works to promote her new album and upcoming tour, she goes to a seedy Hollywood club to blow off steam. There she meets The Weeknd’s Tedros, a modern-day cult leader who reveals larger ambitions for Jocelyn’s career.
