For the fans of the CBS Series, Tracker, it looks like they will have to continue to wait on their much anticipated spin-off series. The series which is based on the 2019 Novel “The Never Game” by Jeffrey Deavers follows Colter Shaw, played by DOOL Alum Justin Hartley, as someone who regularly assists law enforcement and concerns family members track down their missing loved ones in exchange for what makes the world go ‘round – money!
The series was a massive hit for CBS, the first season being released in 2024, but there have been rumors of a spin-off following the announcement for season 2.
Tracker Spoilers – Not So Fast.
But Showrunner Ken Olin and Elwood Reid are saying “not so fast” in an interview with TV line, because they want to give the show itself room to breathe.
They think that right now a spin-off weeks old not be in the series best interest, Reid even says that sometimes making a spin-off too soon can make both the original series and the spin-off suffer, and Olin seems to agree with this point.
Reid: “It’s so funny because all my friends are like, ‘You’ve got to start thinking about spinning it off.’ Second seasons are very hard. I’ve seen this with shows, where they spin them off too early, then both shows suffer. The show is so singular with Justin [at its center] that it’s really important we keep expanding the world, expanding the cases and [expanding] what Tracker can do. Unlike a lot of shows — unlike a cop show in New York or Chicago, where they’re always dealing with a homicide — I can go into any world. I can go into stock car racing, I can go into Nashville, I can go into any world I want.”
Olin: “Elwood and I, we’re pretty satisfied, too, by doing this [one show]. It’s a weird show to spin-off. But also, like, things don’t break through easily anymore…. I mean, look, Dick Wolf has been very successful and all that, but those [shows] are also how old now?”
Tracker Spoilers – An Overnight Success!
In spite of only being released in February of 2024, Tracker really gathered an audience and ended up as one of the most watched series for 2023-2024, a true testament to the quality of the show. It beat out other dramas such as Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, NCIS and even Young Sheldon!
One of the reasons the show became so successful so fast was because of its cast of talented and very familiar actors. Who doesn’t recognize Justin Hartley after his DOOL fame?
Tracker Spoilers – The New World Can Look Like Anything, Literally!
A spin-off seems inevitable at this point, and with so many different directions to go in there is no telling what shape a spin-off series could take. The second season is set to premiere on October 13th, 2024, so we would expect any sort of spin-off announcement to happen after that date.
Right now, we just know that there are talks about it. One possible direction that the spin-off show could go in, would be to follow Colter’s brother, Russel, played by Jensen Ackles, which would definitely be a treat for not only Tracker fans but also for former Supernatural fans and for those fans of 90’s DOOL, where Ackles got his start.
Tracker Spoilers – A tracker By Any Other Name
Another possible direction for the spin-off to go in would be to follow Billie Matalon, played by Sofia Pernas, who is a fellow skilled tracker and survivalist like Colter Shaw.
Whatever direction they decide to go in, the fans are waiting with bated breath. Check back here often for news about Tracker as well as your other favorite shows! Stay tuned!!!
