ABC’s senior dating show, “Golden Bachelorette,” is removing contestant Gil Ramirez from upcoming episodes following the revelation of a temporary restraining order (TRO) against him.
Ramirez, a 60-year-old educator from Mission Viejo, California, was the subject of a TRO filed by a 62-year-old woman who had dated him.
Why ‘Golden Bachelorette’ is Removing Contestant Gil Ramirez
According to court documents from the Superior Court of California, the woman accused Ramirez of “harassment-emotional,” as outlined in her request for the order on June 11.
In her statement, the woman described how Ramirez continued to contact her despite being told not to. She alleged that he made “repeated unwanted contact” not only with her but also with her family and friends, making about “25 attempts daily via phone, texts, video.”
She also stated that although Ramirez lived an hour away, he would still appear at places she frequented, confronting her regularly.
She further detailed that the emotional distress began in May, two weeks before she sought the court’s intervention. Her TRO request demanded that Ramirez stay away from her residence, workplace, car, and her children’s school.
Court records show that on July 24, the restraining order was dismissed due to “lack of prosecution.” Ramirez had not been served the TRO in time for the hearing, causing the case to be dropped.
Ramirez’s Run in The ‘Golden Bachelorette’
Ramirez first appeared in the premiere episode of “Golden Bachelorette” on September 18, where he received a rose from Joan Vassos, indicating that he would continue on the show.
However, a source close to the production shared that ABC and the show’s executives were only recently informed of the legal situation involving Ramirez.
“This legal filing occurred between the completion of our extensive background checks and the start of production,” the insider told USA TODAY.
As a result, the production team decided to significantly reduce Ramirez’s screen time and limit his appearance in promotional materials going forward.
This controversy comes on the heels of another scandal involving Bachelor Nation. Recently, details surfaced regarding Season 21 Bachelorette winner Devin Strader’s 2017 arrest and TRO. Strader has since addressed the issue, explaining that the situation from his past was “severely misconstrued.”
While Ramirez’s future on the show remains uncertain, his presence will be minimized in the coming episodes as the show navigates this new development.
