Nathalie Kelley is the star of a new ABC series called “The Baker and The Beauty” which is a sweet modern fairy tale that is equal parts captivating and charming which is in part due to the charm of Kelley as international celebrity Noa Hamilton. The series focuses on a Cuban-American family that runs a modest bakery in Miami before who find their world turned upside down when the eldest son Daniel Garcia (Victor Rasuk) meets Noa Hamilton and is swept into her world.

The show focuses on the romance between Daniel and Noa, but the love story at the heart of the show is the bond of the Garcia family. Kelley shares that the family bonds are powerful and seeing this connection between them is needed during this time of uncertainty.

The Argentinian-Peruvian actor talks to NBC News about her move to Sydney from Peru when she was just a toddler which she shares that it wasn’t like growing up Latino in the U.S. An annual Latin American festival takes place which she gushes about how her family would never miss it and dishes that it would be her once chance to eat empanadas, hear Spanish spoken, and watch salsa dancing.

The actor opens up about how she’s been drawn to learn more about her roots since she was young and found herself hanging out with Brazilians who had relocated to Australian so much that she considered herself an “adopted” Brazilian.

When she was 16, she found her way back to South American which she says was when she fully connected to her cultural background. Kelley describes the experience as the ultimate homecoming and dishes about all the emotions and feelings she had which gave her a deep sense of belonging. Kelley goes on to share how she feels a responsibility to lineage and consider herself lucky to have her ancestry from Peru which finds the actor opened up about her grandmother who speaks Quechua (the language of the Incas) and how this keeps her connected to her indigenous Latin American side.

Her new series “The Beauty and the Baker” finds her playing international celebrity Noa Hamilton who is a superstar and fashion model with Kelley describing her as someone that is passionate about her causes and someone that looks out for her employees because she considers them her family all.

The actor continues by describing the character as being an authentic and vulnerable woman that is seen under the strong, opinionated, powerful boss woman persona. The first few episodes of the show have already shown these sides to Noa as she weaves between this superstar in the public to a grounded woman with her employees to a raw emotional performance during a call with her mother who thought she was still a child.

The new show is adapted from an Israeli series and though set in Miami, it is almost entirely filmed in Puerto Rico which generated $57 million in revenue and has most of the cast and crew is primarily Latino. Come back here for more “The Beauty and the Baker” news!
