Bachelor Nation favorite Joe Amabile shocked fans on Monday when he revealed he has been diagnosed with an early-stage brain tumor. Read on to find out more.

An Accidental Finding

Per People magazine, the diagnosis came after Amabile chose to have a preventative full-body scan. The scan picked up an abnormality, and an MRI later confirmed what doctors described as a “blueberry-sized glioma.”

In simple terms, doctors found a small brain tumor.

Joe Amabile is loved by many fans from Bachelor Nation, and they first got to know him on The Bachelorette in 2018.

Then he became very popular on Bachelor in Paradise, and as often happens with the cast, he also appeared on Dancing with the Stars.

Heading to Surgery

Joe hasn’t yet had any surgery, but he will soon undergo a craniotomy. That comes later this month, and hopefully the medical professionals can help to fix the lesion.

The procedure will take place at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. US Weekly reported that Amabile is optimistic. He shared that the tumor is in “really early stages” and that he feels completely fine physically.

Medical teams plan to test the tumor tissue after the operation to map out his next steps.

Any brain tumor diagnosis is frightening. However, early detection gives doctors more treatment options, and many patients go on to do well after surgery.

After all, other well-known people got it and fought back, like Isabella Strahan and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp. Both of them are in remission.

Still, it must be a terrifying reality, yet Amabile seems to be keeping his composure. Even so, the diagnosis must have come as an enormous shock, especially after he underwent the scan as a precaution rather than because he felt ill.

Love and Support

Amabile is not going through this ordeal alone. His wife, Serena Pitt, whom he married in October 2022, publicly vowed to stand by him.

“You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together,” Pitt wrote on social media.

The couple met during season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise. They got engaged in June 2021 and now live a highly public life. Joe Amabile and Serena host the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, and he also has his pasta sauce brand, Sundays With Joe.

His former Dancing with the Stars partner, Jenna Johnson, sent her well wishes. Support has poured in from across the entertainment industry as he prepares for the operating room.

Fans React Online

On social media, many fans expressed deep concern and shared their own experiences with sudden medical diagnoses.

On Reddit, plenty of fans talked about the worrying news. One of them penned, “Truly hoping the best for him. Lost a dear friend this year at 36. I hope Joe lives a long, healthy life.”

Another fan admitted, “Wishing him nothing but the best, it must have been shocking to find this out.”

Not everyone follows Joe Amabile on Instagram, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care. Someone wrote, “Oh no that’s horrible. I don’t follow them on Instagram, but I kind of kept up with Joe and Serena from listening to Bachelor Happy Hour.”

Here’s another reaction from the discussion: “I know what it’s like to receive a world-rocking diagnosis out of nowhere when you didn’t have any clue something may be up. It is really difficult to come to terms with. Wishing him all the best and that this is just a scary blip that’s cleared up quickly.”

Amabile has several factors in his favor. The tumor is small, caught early, and he is receiving care at a top cancer center. He isn’t letting fear dominate the narrative. For now, he waits for his late-July surgery date.
