Coronation Street Spoilers – Beverley Callard In Wheelchair
Corrie fans were really confused and upset over Liz McDonald suddenly vanishing from the ITV soap opera. They didn’t understand why the character would be in Spain and what exactly happened. Of course, the first thought to many was that the writers just wrote off Beverley’s character. However, that’s not what happened at all.
On March 12, Beverley went into the hospital for routine hip surgery. However, there were complications that left the actress barely able to walk. She is now in a wheelchair and issuing the hospital, according to her interview with Mirror.
Corrie Actress In Agony And Torturous Pain
Beverley explained to the publication why an off-screen exit was necessary for her character. She said,
“I have been gone because it has been the worst six months of my life. I have been in the most excruciating pain you can imagine – like teeth grinding inside my hip. But worse than that was the mental torture of thinking ‘is this the end for me? A huge part of me thought I’d never been able to return to Coronation Street – that I wouldn’t even walk again.”
Coronation Street Spoilers -Why Liz McDonald Was Written Off
Coronation Street offered to make it possible for Beverely to continue filming, even if she was in a wheelchair. However, the actress didn’t think it would work for her or her character. She explained,
“Liz is famous for mini skirts, stockings, and high heels shoes. Not crutches and a mobility scooter. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do my job anymore.”
Veteran Agreed To Stay
Last year, Beverley announced she would be leaving the soap in July 2020 after 31 years of playing Liz McDonald. However, she recently explained that she had later agreed to stay on Corrie for one more year before saying farewell. But the surgery complications — a surgery that a second doctor said never should have happened — have completely derailed her life.
“I had the next two years of my life planned. You don’t leave a job like Corrie without plans. I had a whole year at Corrie and then a year of plans after that. Then it all fell by the wayside because of this. There have been days when I’ve asked myself ‘how will I earn any money?’ There have been days when I panicked. And there was definite doubt over whether I would walk again.”
