The Bold And The Beautiful star Denise Richards has come a long way since her appearance in a James Bond movie. But the actress admitted that she has not forgotten the backlash she received as a Bond Girl. And in a new podcast, Denise dished on the experience via Cinema Blend.

Even though nearly 25 years has passed since Richards starred as one of The World is Not Enough’s Bond Girls, Richards still feels upset about the backlash. And Denise recalled what happened when she portrayed the nuclear physicist character Dr. Christmas Jones. During the press tour as well as after the release, Richards experienced a fallout for two key reasons. 

First, reviewers felt that a nuclear physicist should not don shorts and a tank top for meeting up with Commander Bond (Pierce Brosnan). And second, fans criticized the choice of Denise for the role because of her overall appearance. As a result, Richards struggled with how to respond to the backlash.

And as she reflects on the experience, the Bold And The Beautiful star admits to the challenges. “When I got a lot of flack, I said, ‘Ok. I’m playing a Bond Girl, it’s tongue in cheek.’ If I was really wearing a lab coat and doing all of that, then people would say, ‘Why isn’t she a Bond Girl?’ It was very hard when that movie came out,” admitted Denise.

However, the press tour offered its own set of challenges. “Because I did get a lot of flack for it,” noted Richards about doing media interviews. “And it was not easy for me with the magnitude of the press that I did. To go out there, knowing people were making fun of me, that was the first time in my career that I had to deal with something like that,” she added. “And it was very very difficult for me.”

But Denise took responsibility for fulfilling her duties on the press tour. And she recalled, “I just had to put a smile on my face and go out and do talk shows.” However, the Bold And The Beautiful star got so upset over the reviews that she would cry in the privacy of her hotel room. “I would go to my hotel and cry because in the reviews they were making fun of me and saying stuff,” she added.
