Drew Barrymore, the star of “Riding In Cars With Boys” has got some kind words to say about the “Love Actually” actor Hugh Grant.
Grant’s unruly behavior at the Oscars got him on the receiving end of backlash from the public.
People expected to see Grant put on his charming face and charm away Ashley Graham who happened to be his interviewer but, unfortunately “Grumpy” Hugh showed up.
However, Barrymore has come to defend her “Music and Lyrics” co-star.
Drew Barrymore — Barrymore Says Grant’s Oscar Behavior “Is His Way Of Loving You”
Using her “Drew Barrymore Show” as the perfect platform to set things right, the “Charlie’s Angels” alum explained that Graham met with the real Grant. “I swear, if you know Hugh, that is his way of loving you. No I swear,” said the 48-year-old mom of two.
Due to how rude Grant was while answering Graham’s questions, he got roasted by social media users. For that, Barrymore took it upon herself to describe Grant’s personality.
“People are like, ‘Oh, he’s such a curmudgeon and she’s so thrown.’ I’m like, no, that is Hugh Grant. You think you’re getting this charming movie star and what you really get is grumpy Hugh. And then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh,” said the actress on Friday, March 17.
She revealed that when she first met Grant she tried to understand him, “Probably like Ashley Graham on the carpet, like, ‘who am I dealing with?'”
She added, “And then I was like, oh, no, I love you. I want to love you. You’re not letting me love you. As I got to know him, I was like I do love you. I love you for the real you. He is a hilarious, good human being.”
In a recent interview with “Wired,” Grant shaded Barrymore’s singing in their film “Music and Lyrics” saying, “Drew Barrymore was in that film with me, and I don’t think she’d mind me saying — her singing is just horrendous. I’ve heard dogs bark better than she sings.”
To show how much the two understood each other, Barrymore replied by singing an off key “Oh Hugh…bert. Hubert,” to Grant before adding, “That’s for you.”
Drew Barrymore — On Ashley Graham’s Interview With Hugh Grant
At the 2023 Oscars which took place at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12, the “A New Model” author approached the “Notting Hill” star on the red carpet for an interview.
Graham began her questions by asking Grant his favorite part of the Oscars show. Expecting to hear that his favorite part was either the Award presentation time or the performance by other stars, Grant replied curtly, “It’s fascinating. The whole of humanity is here. It’s vanity fair.”
At the mention of “Vanity Fair” Graham thought Grant meant the after party but, unbeknownst to her, Grant actually meant, “a scene or place characterized by frivolity and ostentation.”
When Graham told Grant, “Yes, that’s where we let loose and have fun,” Grant’s expression served as a correction to that thought.
Things got worse when the model asked the “Paddington” star who he was wearing and he replied, “Just my suit” without mentioning his tailor. When asked who his tailor was he said, “I can’t remember my tailor.”
Graham who was all smiles amid Grant’s rudeness gave it another shot and asked him how filming “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” was for him. Grant as usual, gave a curt, “Well, I’m barely in it. I’m in it for about 3 seconds.”
The interview didn’t last up to two minutes due to Grant’s lack of cooperation, and when Graham sent him away with “It was nice to talk to you,” Grant issued a terse “Yeah” with an eye-roll.
