Drew Barrymore Shares How She Was Lied To On A Dating App

It’s one thing to go on “50 First Dates” offline, and another thing to date online, and Drew Barrymore learned that the hard way after being lied to on a dating app. The actress shared her experience during the January 26 episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

According to her, someone she met on the app lied about being an NFL player. “This guy on my dating app said he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams,” said the “Never Been Kissed” star

She continued, “So, I wrote to him and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I went to the first practice game. I was so frustrated being a girl from Los Angeles who loves football and we didn’t have any teams, and then I moved away to New York and then we got two teams and—it’s nice to meet you, my name is Drew.'”

Well, things didn’t go well as she later discovered that her suitor was in fact a musician, “He was not the quarterback for the L.A. Rams. He’s a musician that thought he was being cute.”

Turning to her co-host Ross Matthews, Drew asked how she was supposed to feel after being lied to in such a manner, and Ross answered, “You should feel lied to—robbed,” before going on to tell her, “I had a fantasy that you’re like the new Taylor Swift and you’d be at the games, right?”

Well, Drew denied ever expecting something like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship. She even shared how her lair suitor made up a nickname for her which she dislikes very much. “The guy was like, ‘Hey Drewski,’ and I was like, ‘I hate you. You pithy, deceiving, playful—you’ve made me feel stupid. I don’t know who you are. I feel so dumb. Why did we have to get off on this foot? I hate you!'”

The 48-year-old also shared in the episode how she never really liked dating apps, “Every time I get on there, it does not feel great. I always last five days. And this time my app has changed where it shows people like you so it’s very flattering … but I don’t know who anyone is, and it just feels scary to go out with a stranger.”

Drew who shares two children Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, once revealed last year October 2023, during one of the episodes of her talk show that she was inspired to start dating after seeing the “22” singer’s romance with Travis and how she spends time with his family.

“I just want to say, for me personally, I have been single for seven years, seeing [Taylor] on that first date out there in the box with his family, I had a very big … ‘aha moment,’ There was something so normal about it, and obviously Taylor Swift is everything but normal.”

“But [it made me think], ‘I’m a female, I’m going to go out on a date with a male, I’m not going to overthink this, I am not going to be the dark horse and be secretive and weird about it.’ Like, she just went out on a date and it made me think I could just go out on a date.”
