Priscilla Presley Says Settling Legal Issue Brought the Family Closer Together

Lisa Marie Presley died on Jan. 12, and a few days following her tragic death, news emerged that the late actress’ estate was under contention. Happily, the legal battle helped the family heal and breach their differences to reach a better place.

According to Priscilla, her family is “stronger than ever” following their disagreement over who manages late Lisa Marie Presley’s trust.

Before her death, Lisa Marie removed her mother Priscilla as one of her trustees, leaving Keough the sole trustee. In a legal pushback, Priscilla insisted that she wasn’t present during the change thereby rendering the amendment null and void.

She also claimed Lisa Marie’s signature on the legal papers was a fake.  In a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Priscilla denied filing any lawsuit against her daughter.

“My family has resolved all confusion as it relates to our plea to the court and request for document interpretation after my daughter Lisa Marie’s untimely passing,” Priscilla said in the statement. “Although some media identified such a plea as a lawsuit, I want to make clear that there was never any lawsuit filed against my beloved granddaughter.”

She continued: “As a family, we are pleased that we resolved this together. My family and I hope that everyone will grant us the privacy we have needed to properly grieve Lisa Marie and spend personal time together. We love and appreciate all of you and the Presley family is stronger than ever.”

Riley Keough’s Attorney Says Actress Wouldn’t Have Settled If She Wasn’t Okay with the Terms

On Tuesday, legal counsel for Priscilla, 77, and Riley reached a settlement, with Riley’s side set to submit a settlement request under seal for both the Promenade and an insurance trust.

“They have reached a settlement. Families are happy,” Priscilla’s lawyer told reporters, adding, “Everyone is happy. Unified and together and excited for the future.”

Keough’s attorney added, “[Riley] would not have agreed to the settlement if she was not happy with it.”
