Richard Williams “Definitely” Wants Will Smith’s Oscars Ban To Be Lifted

Richard Williams is Team Will Smith! Just in case by the tiniest chance you don’t know who Richard Williams is, he is the father and coach to his tennis legend children Serena and Venus Williams.

Richard Williams is the man who Will Smith portrayed in his award-winning movie “King Richard” and he has come out to give his two cents on the 10-year ban given to Smith as penalty for his actions in last year’s Oscars.

Richard Williams — Williams Says He’s Never “Disgusted” By Smith

The coach shared in a recent interview with iTV which aired on Monday that he would never be disgusted by the “Gemini Man” actor. He has always been a team Smith, and won’t stop being on Smith’s side anytime soon.

According to Williams, “I’ll always stand by him. I think he’s done the best that he needed to, I would never be disgusted with Mr. Smith. Matter of fact, I appreciate Mr. Smith.” He went on to add “I don’t feel sorry for no one. It’s time for everyone to forgive Will Smith.”

Speaking about the decade ban, Williams is of the opinion that it “definitely should be” lifted, he points out that it shouldn’t have been stretched to this length, rather its longevity should have been “no more than a week.”

Knowing fully well that people would come for him for standing with Smith, he isn’t the least bit shaken as he said, “people are going to say good or bad about me anyway. I don’t give a damn what no one says good or bad about me. I’m always good about myself.”

Last year, after the infamous incident where Smith walked up onstage and delivered a hot slap to Chris Rock (Rock made a joke at the expense of Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith), Williams told NBC News that he doesn’t “condone anyone hitting anyone else unless it’s in self-defense.”

Richard Williams — Serena Also Understood Smith’s Reaction

February last month, during a conversation with Gayle King for a “CBS Mornings” segment, Serena Williams revealed that she somehow understood where Smith’s Oscars action came from.

The tennis icon said, “I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and made a tremendous amount of mistakes, and I’m the kind of person that’s like, ‘I’ve been there. I’ve made a mistake. It’s not the end of the world,’”

She also added, “We’re all imperfect, and we’re all human, and let’s just be kind to each other.”
