Tina Turner’s Fans Slam Beyonce And Jay-Z For Mocking Singer’s Abuse

If only they can turn back time. Tina Turner’s fans are slamming pop stars Beyonce and Jay-Z for mocking the singer’s abuse in a song that they wrote nearly ten years ago.

As many fans know by now, Tina Turner died at the age of 83 while at her home in Switzerland on Wednesday. Keep reading below of everything you need to know.

The moment that Tina Turner’s death was announced, a lot of people turned their attention to Beyonce and Jay-Z. That’s because their 2013 song, Drunk In Love, referenced the physical and mental abuse that she had suffered at the hands of her ex-husband, Ike Turner.

The song refers to Tina as Anna Mae, which is actually her real name. Some of the lyrics to Drunk In Love include, “I’m Ike, Turner, turn up / Baby no I don’t play / Now eat the cake, Anna Mae / I said eat the cake, Anna Mae.”

Of course, it didn’t take long at all for many critics to weigh in on the matter on social media included, “A tragic example of #TinaTurner being mocked & her abuse being dismissed,” along with, “I still can’t get over Jay Z saying ‘eat the cake Anna Mae, eat the cake’ on ‘Drunk In Love’. When I found out that it was reference to Ike forcing Tina to eat literal cake..a damn shame… “

Another angry Tina Turner fan added, “Still mad at beyonce and jay z for that tina turner abuse reference… I love Bey but she rubs me the wrong way sometimes. How is Tina Turner one of your biggest inspirations but you were ok with Jay Z using that line in Drunk in Love…”

Did Beyonce And Jay-Z Step Out Of Line?

Tina Turner’s official social media accounts shared a black-and-white photo of the super pop star and captioned it with, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

So far both Beyonce and Jay-Z have not made any comments about the criticism.
