There was a time in which he was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but now it seems like he wants nothing to do with the entertainment industry. In fact, there’s a new report that suggests the one and only Tom Cruise is terrified and doesn’t trust anyone in Tinseltown anymore.

In fact, Tom is so paranoid that he can’t help but watch his back while he’s still trying to schmooze his way to an Oscar for his role in the megahit, Top Gun: Maverick. Here’s what you need to know.

According to the latest edition of The National Enquirer, if there’s anything that Tom wants to avoid these days, it’s another PR disaster. That’s why he wants to make sure that his campaign for Tom Gun turns out to be as smooth as possible, as the flick has racked up six Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.

And while Tom himself was snubbed for a Best Actor award, he can still win an Oscar as he was one of the producers of the movie.

One source close to the situation even said, “He’s charming the hell out of everyone at all the industry events, but he’s hard to pin down after the party’s over. Even his comings and goings are kept secret. When in Los Angeles, he divides his time between a Bel-Air resident and a Scientology base in the desert, traveling by helicopters so he can stay under the radar.”

Apparently, Tom is just being super careful as he doesn’t want to make a fool out of himself like he did way back when he was jumping on couches and proclaiming his love for his ex-wife Katie Holmes to Oprah Winfrey.

The tipster added, “Tom knows anything he says can bite him in the butt, but he also likes the mystery of being inaccessible. In social situations, he swoops in to chat and then leaves in a flash. He might have a lot of people throw themselves at him, but he’s skeptical of anyone outside his Scientology clique. And an Oscar, if Top Gun wins it, won’t change that.”
