Saturday Night Live truly has had its own shares of controversies over the years, and the latest one directly put the newest host, Woody Harrelson, in the hot seat. After joining the Saturday Night Live’s Five-Timers Club for his latest hosting appearance, the actor was met with a lot of criticisms after he took his jokes too far.
On his latest SNL gig, the actor used his platform to disparage the importance of the life-saving COVID vaccines. “So, the movie goes like this,” said Harrelson. “The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes, and people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.” After Harrelson’s monologue, several media houses reached out to NBC and SNL for comment, but they did not respond.
Woody Harrelson’s – Saturday Night Live Hosting Gig Turns Controversial After He Shares Anti-vaccine Views
After Harrelson’s monologue aired, the star faced criticism online for the casual way he disregarded the life-saving vaccines. “With Woody Harrelson’s monologue on SNL last night, the anti-vax stupidity in America just peaked,” wrote one person. “It’s disappointing that Lorne Michaels would allow this conspiratorial nonsense on his show. It’s probably time for Lorne to retire.”
Anither tweeted: “Does #SNL think [it’s] just harmless noise? Normalizing #antivaxx conspiracies does real harm!” “Anti-Vaxxers won’t listen to highly educated people who’ve spent their lives devoted to science and medicine—but they will listen to a guy who they saw in that movie they watched a few years ago,” another individual opined on the matter.

“Whenever anyone spews anti-vax stupidity, I always think of the countless videos of traumatized/crying doctors, nurses and hospital workers who were climbing over bodies in Covid’s early days,” a Twitter user wrote. “So yeah, f— Woody Harrelson.”However, this is not the first time that the “True Detective” alum has shared similar views, as he previously told Vanity Fair that he found the idea of masking “absurd”. “As one who doesn’t believe in the germ theory, I find it rather absurd,” he said in May 2022.
He even went as far as purporting the theories that 5G networks were somehow linked to coronavirus, even though he made it clear that he isn’t fully supporting the conspiracy theory.
