The Bailey family came to Corrie last July and viewers have embraced them. Little by little the character’s backgrounds have been revealed, with James sexuality being explored gradually.

He is now living life as a gay man after coming out but it seems there will be a dilemma this week with one of his teammates.

Coronation Street spoilers — James arrived in Weatherfield with a secret

James initially hid the fact he is gay from his family but he confided in Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) about his struggle. Eventually he was able to talk to his family, including his conventional father, Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges), as well as his teammates and fans.

Late last year he came out to his brother Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) and mom Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) and they were supportive.

He left his dad for last and acted only after being given an ultimatum by his boyfriend Danny Tomlinson (Dylan Brady).

Danny told James he would end their relationship unless James revealed his sexuality. James wasn’t able to do so and subsequently his relationship with Danny came to an end.

Eventually James told his father the truth, and for this he found himself initially rejected. His father didn’t know how to handle the news but last week Ed finally accepted James his son for who he is.

James’ teammates found out after Danny spread the news on social media in revenge.

Coronation Street spoilers – A new twist in James’ story?

How did the news go over? Most players have been supportive of James but some fans haven’t been so kind.

Spoilers for tomorrow night’s episode reveal that a teammate will turn on James and cause trouble when James and a friend talk after the late game. At that point a player makes a homophobic remark, saying, “Does your boyfriend know you’re here?”

His friend jumps to James’ defense but fans are speculating that James’ teammate is a new love interest and the two will grow close in coming days.
