Days of Our Lives spoilers tease that even legitimate news sources can get things wrong, as TV Line started a fan firestorm today when they reported all Days of Our Lives actors were fired and the show was being cancelled! Chandler Massey, who plays Will Horton on the show, clears it up!
Here’s What TV Line’s Article Said
This is what TV Line’s article said: “TVLine has learned exclusively that the producers of Days of Our Lives have released the entire cast from their contracts, with the venerable soap set to go on an indefinite hiatus at month’s end. While the NBC sudser has not been canceled, the unprecedented — and decidedly ominous — move comes at a precarious time for ratings-challenged Days and the vanishing soap genre as a whole. It also comes as Sony Pictures Television and NBC are in negotiations to renew series.”
This is extremely misleading. The article went on to say that the production schedule was altered in a cost-cutting move, which Chandler explains in a tweet as follows: “We’re not being canceled. We are pausing production because we are so far ahead of schedule (and it saves us $). Days will still air during the entire hiatus, so you won’t miss anything!”
Jason 47 Explains In More Detail
Jason 47, whose only website is a Facebook account, is a familiar name to many DOOL fans who read his comments in several different spoiler sites. He appears to be an insider, as he is always posting cast chart pictures from the DOOL dressing room and the mysterious Jason 47 may, in fact, be on the scriptwriting team there, based on a recap he wrote of a week-ahead episode accidentally aired on Australian television – he wrote it in acts and mentioned there were no breaks in the Australian version where they would be put in the US version.
He explains what is going on as follows: “REGARDING THE TV LINE REPORT, CALM DOWN “DAYS” FANS…TV Line just posted an article about the entire “Days” cast being released from the contract. With the show going on an extended production hiatus, this is a necessary business move. With most contract cycles only being 13 weeks, and the show going on hiatus for more than 13 weeks, this was the only possible option.
With “Days” now having taped into July 2020, and written episodes into August 2020, the show was always going to have to suspend production at this point until they get word from NBC about its renewal decision, since they are pretty close to having written the last episode of the current contract.
We’re not being cancelled. We are pausing production because we are so far ahead of schedule (and it saves us $). Days will still air during the entire hiatus, so you won’t miss anything!

So, “Days” fans, don’t look at this as a reason to worry, or a sign that NBC will not renew the show. This is just a necessary business decision. In fact, in the past, actors whose 13-week cycles ended during previous long production breaks, have quietly had their contracts lapse and then sign new ones when the show returns from break. So this is NOT the first time this has happened. It’s just the first time it’s been reported to this degree..”
Many other soap websites quoted the TV Line article verbatim, and it turned out to be a case of Chicken Little telling everyone the sky was falling when it’s not!
