Viewers have loved watching the Daytime Emmy Awards until 2015. That was the last time the show was televised and it sparked complaints among the fans.
In 2020, the show will be stretched out over three days, a change which confused many as to when they should watch or attend. To clear up the confusion, Soaps.com reached out to NATAS President/CEO Adam Sharp.
Sharp said that NATAS has not determined which evening will be dedicated to which categories. NATAS will follow the traditional format, wherein one evening is dedicated to Daytime Drama talent and programs. However, it will be on a different night, instead of the usual Sunday.
Each Daytime Emmy Awards Night Will Have Its Own Distinctive Feel
NATAS want each night to have its own distinct feel, with categories aligned in a such a way that the attendees and the media would attend one or two nights that they consider as most important to them. Sharp has promised to keep the media and the public posted once official details become available.

Sharp also clarified that the show hasn’t been televised, but not because of a funding issue.
“Let me first clear up a misconception: The cost and NATAS’s nonprofit status are not the relevant part here. If broadcast, those costs are picked up by the networks,” he said. “The Oscars, Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, Grammys, and other major award shows are televised not because the respective academies choose to broadcast them, but rather because networks have sought to license and produce the events — footing those bills in the process.”
NATAS Wants Every Talent To Be Honored On Every Possible Screen
Sharp also revealed that NATAS hasn’t had a broadcast licensee over the past few years. It has opted to fund itself just so they could serve the fans.
“This has given an opportunity to reflect changing patterns in viewing behavior. As a result, the Daytime Emmys are the only one of the major awards shows to post substantial year-over-year audience growth, with roughly two million viewers across Twitter, Facebook, and the web for the 2019 ceremony,” Sharp continued.
He continued that NATAS want every talent honored on “every possible screen.” He also wanted to fans to know that “NATAS is doing everything it can to give them what they want and what the nominees deserve.”
