As we know, the Hallmark Channel’s Christmas movies are much-loved by fans. They can start looking forward to a brand new movie, with filming set to start on August 30. It is hoped that the film will air between late November and mid-December. Here’s everything we know so far.

New Hallmark Christmas movie in the works

The working title of the new Christmas movie is The Search for Christmas, but according to Daniel Lewis of Evergreen Film Productions, this could change before it premieres. The movie will be directed by Maclain Nelson and so far, we know that Erin Cahill (Power Rangers, Time Force) will star as the lead actress and a producer.

Other casting should begin over the next couple of weeks before the cameras start rolling on August 30. Lewis said they anticipate that the film will air between late November and mid-December, just in time for the Christmas holidays.

Previous work by Daniel Lewis includes several Lifetime movies, including Christmas in Louisiana, Christmas on the Bayou and Christmas in Mississippi, so he is definitely up on festive films. However, according to Lewis, the new Christmas movie, to be filmed in Natchez, will be the first Evergreen production since he and his partner Rick Carter founded the company two years ago.

The Miami Herald quotes Lewis as saying they have several things in development, but this is the first they are ready to start filming. He noted that several of their productions had been delayed by COVID-19 that were supposed to start production in 2020.

What is the The Search for Christmas about?

While Lewis didn’t reveal much about the movie, he said the story revolves around three sisters who grew apart. The storyline covers they journey of finding their way back to each other over the Christmas holiday. Daniel said the sisters are reminded of the importance of family and traditions.

Locals in Natchez will be happy to learn that the filmmakers did their research and will make the film as authentic to the town as possible. They have even written Natchez Christmas traditions, including the annual Christmas parade, into the script.

“We will be shooting in businesses and won’t be changing names,” he said. “We also want to put as many Natchezians in the film as possible. There will be several opportunities for people to be cast as extras, including kids, parents, etc. We’re also casting diversely to show Natchez as a whole.”

A fundraiser run last Thursday in Natchez offered three featured roles in the upcoming Christmas movie in an auction. The auction went on to raise more than $5,000 for Christmas events in the town.

Lewis said his hope is that this Christmas movie is so successful that it will be the first of many Hallmark films they will bring to the town. By doing so, he wants people to have the opportunity of experiencing Natchez in every season.
