Jim and his wife Bobye Holt briefly appeared on 19 Kids and Counting before leaving the spotlight. The couple spoke out about the family in the four-part docuseries.

Jim Holt’s – Inappropriate Joke

During his appearance on Shiny Happy People, Jim Holt recalled how he met his wife Bobye. They started courting when she was 14 years old and he was 19. Jim noted that despite their large age gap, it was quite common in Arkansas. Viewers were creeped out by their age difference and claimed that Jim “groomed” her into marriage.

Jim followed up his statement with a creepy joke in which he said they were related. He quickly backed it up with the statement, “Just kidding.” Fans were disgusted with the incest joke. It was inappropriate considering Josh Duggar’s history.

He admitted to molesting underage girls, including two of his sisters. One of his sisters, Jill Duggar Dillard, spoke out in that same docuseries. She recalled a time when she had to defend her brother even though she didn’t want to. Jill also shared some other bombshells, including not being paid for her appearances on the show.

Some viewers even noticed that Josh Duggar himself made a similar joke before. It took place during Season 1 of 19 Kids and Counting. All the focus was on Josh’s courtship, which led to his engagement with Anna. Josh and Anna wanted to see a certain movie, but there was just one problem.

Their chaperone wasn’t old enough to see it with them. John David Duggar agreed to chaperone the couple on their date. Josh joked that they should make a “double date” with John David and his twin sister Jana Duggar. It was an uncomfortable moment for everyone involved.

Looking back, it’s disgusting considering Josh Duggar’s scandals. Josh and Anna are still married to this day, even as he currently serves his sentence in prison for child pornography. Jim and Bobye Holt are separated during this time. This may come as a shock to fans considering they’re still conservative Christians.
