Royal Family News: Armed Suspect Was Arrested At Buckingham Palace

British royal family news shows that days before King Charles’ historic coronation, police arrested a man on the grounds of Buckingham Palace after he “threw shotgun cartridges” near the famous residence.

Met Police arrested the individual on suspicion of possessing a weapon at roughly 7pm Tuesday as he neared the palace gates just as coronation rehearsals took place for the May 6 ceremony.

According to witnesses who spoke to The Sun, the suspect appeared to be in his 30s and was seen tossing items onto the grounds just before his arrest. Later police detonated a suspicious bag in a controlled explosion.

One eyewitness reported that the detained man “had stationed himself outside the palace over the last few nights and was heard shouting ‘I’m going to kill the King.’”

According to the outlet, police are treating the event as a “isolated mental health incident,” not an act of terrorism.

After the ruckus, Buckingham Palace stated that King Charles and Queen Camilla were not on the grounds when the incident occurred, but did not indicate if other family members were present at the time.

Joseph McDonald is the Met Police chief superintendent and declared “Officers worked immediately to detain the man and he has been taken into police custody. There have been no reports of any shots fired, or any injuries to officers or members of the public. Officers remain at the scene and further inquiries are ongoing.”

Royal Family News – Charles Not In Danger

They also confirmed that the suspect is in custody and was found to be in possession of a suspicious bag.

They added: “Cordons are in place after the man was also found to be in possession of a suspicious bag. Specialists are in attendance and will assess the item.”

MP Jacob Rees-Mogg was at the palace when police carried out the controlled explosion and he told MailOnline: “It was all a bit odd … We could’ve carried on broadcasting rather than evacuating.”

He added that he has zero concerns about safety for the upcoming coronation and related events.
