British royal family news predicts that King Charles’ May 6 coronation will make history for several reasons, not the least of which is the behavior of spare son Harold. Bookies across the globe are busy getting rich on the question of whether or not he will be present and if so what he does to ruin the occasion.
Another, less fiery conundrum revolves around what Kate Middleton has on her head. Will she go OG and wear a priceless tiara that weighs as much as a French bulldog? Or will she opt for a more sensible low-profile option, perhaps even go topless?
With just a few weeks to go until the coronation, speculation is rife about the big day. According to People, what the Princess of Wales wears is an ongoing convo.
Royal Family News: Kate Middleton Wears What to the Coronation?
Coronations happen once in a lifetime hence they are ripe with pomp, circumstance and lots and lots of bling. Royal women traditionally wear gaudy headpieces.
Lauren Kiehna, author of The Court Jeweller told the outlet, “Tiaras were worn by nearly every royal lady at the Queen’s coronation in 1953, as well lots of aristocratic women but times have certainly changed in 70 years.”
Royal Family News: Tiaras Are The Way to Go
Queen Elizabeth’s coronation seven decades ago, was a festival of bling and “Garrard, the crown jeweller at the time was inundated not only with new commissions from guests attending but also with cleaning requests as everyone dusted off their finest sparkly headwear after the war.”
Lady Anne Glenconner was one of Elizabeth’s six maids and she recalls, “No one had worn their jewelry or tiaras during the war. People were queuing to have their tiaras, which were like great fenders of diamonds, stomachers and necklaces cleaned.”
Royal Family News: Tiaras Will Rule the Coronation
Even if Kate opts for a low-key headpiece it’s almost certain that King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will have elegant crowns on their heads.
Royal Family News: Camilla Will Be Large and in Charge
Here’s what we do know: Camilla will break with tradition with her choice of crown. She is wearing “Queen Mary’s Crown, worn by its namesake for King George V’s coronation in 1911, it will be the first time in recent history that an existing crown is re-used for a coronation. The decision made in the interests of sustainability and efficiency certainly indicates the coronation will look and feel different to the previous one.”
King Charles could wear the Imperial State Crown, which holds some of the most famous jewels in the royal collection: the St. Edward’s Sapphire, the Black Prince’s Ruby, the Stuart Sapphire and the Cullinan II diamond.
