Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth’s Secret Insider Names You Had No Clue About

Queen ElizabethBritish royal family news divulges that the royals are more like us commoners than you might imagine. What family doesn’t use nicknames for each other? Every clan has terms of endearment for its members and here we reveal what names the royals use behind closed doors!

Royal Family News – Who Is Gary In The Royal Family?

Do you know who Gary Windsor is? We do, and we’re spilling the deets here.

According to MailOnline’s Richard Kay, young Prince William let the cat out of the bag after he fell down at Buckingham Palace. He started yelling, “Gary, Gary!” and when a guest asked who Gary was, the queen said, “I’m Gary. He hasn’t learned to say Granny yet.” Priceless!

Royal Family News – Why Is Elizabeth Called Lilibet?

Queen Elizabeth is known as Gary but she has also been Lilibet. When she was younger the toddler couldn’t pronounce Elizabeth and used Lilibet instead. Her family soon picked up the cute name and began using it themselves. Her father King George VI said of his daughters, “Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy.”

Her Majesty’s late husband Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh also used the name as an affectionate nickname.

The world was clued into this name game after Prince Harry announced this month that he named his newborn Lilibet. Not everyone was amused when Harry swiftly threatened legal action against the BBC for reporting the news. Doesn’t he have better things to do, like raise his kids?

Royal Family News – Who Is Gan-Gan?

The queen was also given another sweet name by her great-grandchild Prince George. In a 2016 ITV documentary, the boy’s mom, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, revealed that her son has a special name for the queen.

Kate said, “George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan.’ She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for her family.”

More recently it was revealed that Prince Charles also has a special name of endearment, spilled inadvertently by Kate.

Last weekend world leaders met in Cornwall at the G-7 Summit and several royals got in on the action. At one point Charles turned to greet Kate and William, and it was widely reported that Kate said, “Hello, Grandpa!” instead of using his formal title. While it may have been a breach of protocol, the majority of royal fans delighted in the cute gaffe.
