‘Carrie’ Reboot: Steven King’s Television Adaptation in Development at FX

A Carrie reboot is currently under development at FX. Stephen King’s classic novel is going to become a television adaptation. It’s also been rumored that a person of color or a trans person could star in the lead role. The new television series is based on the 1974 novel, which told the story of Carrie White, a teenage girl who kept to herself and had a religious mother.

She was also the target of high school burying. Then the bullies regret picking on Carrie, who also possesses telekinetic powers that are revealed when she’s humiliated during her high school prom.

Carrie Is Special To Stephen King

Carrie was the debut novel for King. It even solidified the writer’s reputation as a best-selling author. The book alone sold over 1 million copies. The novel was later adapted into a feature film in 1976 with Sissy Spacek in the lead role.

It also included a supporting cast such as Amy Irving, John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and Piper Laurie. Brian de Palma was the director of the film. In 1999, a sequel to the original film titled The Rage: Carrie 2 with Emily Bergl starring as the late Carrie’s telekinetic half-sister.

Carrie Had A Sequel

There was also a television movie starring Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson. In 2013, there was another revival for the big screen with Chloe Grace Moretz taking on the role of Carrie. Julianne Moore starred as Carrie’s mother and Kimberly Peirce was the director of the film.

Everyone knows that King adaptations have gained popularity once again in Hollywood. FX hopes to resurrect the Carrie story once again as a limited series. It’ll be based on the novel this time around, according to a report via Collider. The report also revealed that this role will also feature a person of color or a trans actor to play the lead role.

It seems like the producers want to put a new twist on the classic tale by changing the lead and focusing on a new dynamic. The idea of using a trans person or person of color as the role of Carrie White could be interesting. It’ll give the story to be told in a topical point of view rather than presenting the same horror story. It’ll also be interesting to see who producers will cast as the role of Carrie in this new television adaptation.
