ATX Television Festival’s Live Feed

According to Deadline, the ATX Television Festival’s live feed on YouTube showed a panel that included actors Ryan Eggold, Jocko Sims, writer/consulting producer Erika Green Swafford, writer/executive producer David Foster, director/executive producer Peter Horton, as well as the 18th Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin.

COVID-19 Issues Just As Important As War, AIDS, Etc.

Horton feels that incorporating the pandemic into storylines is just as important as the various wars and HIV/AIDS. “I, like a lot of you, grew up in a time of stakes. There was the Vietnam War, there was the Cold War, all the assassinations, Watergate, and storytelling in that time really reflected that reality. Storytellers needed to speak to that time because the stakes were so high. We happen to be a show uniquely situated for this particular situation. [The series is based on] the Bellevue Hospital, which is at the epicenter of the COVID outbreak, so we are telling stories from the very epicenter of the situation we find ourselves in.”

Responsibility To Demonstrate Good Leadership

Eggold indicated that New Amsterdam is in a unique position and has a responsibility to demonstrate good leadership. It also has the ability to show what it looks like when there is no or little quality leadership. They want to discuss solutions in a real-world way while being completely transparent.

New Amsterdam Season 3 Spoilers: Future Of Dr. Reynolds

The COVID-19 pandemic shut down production, which means that Dr. Reynold’s storyline was cut short. This means that we won’t see the resolution to the San Francisco situation until New Amsterdam season 3 airs on television. As for what the future holds for his character, Sims really isn’t sure. However, the actor said that if Dr. Reynolds sticks around, he could bring a lot of different things to the character. He added,

“What comes to mind is just my own physical health, being a Black male, or someone who comes from a family with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. Being able to bring these real-life situations into the character, and into the story, there’s definitely a lot there.”
