CW Cancels Supernatural: The Winchesters, What Happened?

CW canceled the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters. This caused a riot among the dedicated fanbase. The Winchesters was one of the most popular series on the network, so what happened?

CW Spoilers – Axes The Winchesters

In a surprising plot twist, CW axed The Winchesters. The spinoff series is the prequel to the long-running series, Supernatural. Fans were outraged when they learned of the news of the cancellation. The stars of the show are speaking out about the devastating news.

The series centered on Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and John Winchester (Drake Rodger). The couple fell in love and got married. They ended up as the parents to their demon-hunting sons, who were in Supernatural.

The Winchesters

Ultimately, CW didn’t renew the show for a second season as it figures out its budget. Jensen Ackles was one of the stars of Supernatural. He served as an executive producer and narrator for The Winchesters. He shared his reaction to the shocking news on Twitter.

“To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, THANK YOU. And to all those who brought this show to life… I couldn’t be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say… timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with any industry strike… welp… that’s some unfortunate timing.”

Fans took to his tweet to react. One wrote, “Well this definitely sucks,” while another added, “It’s not over. It’s just not right now.” Some fans of The Winchesters have hope that they will release a movie that will incorporate the “dark and twisty supernatural parallel universe.”

Jensen hinted that this wasn’t the end of their story. He thinks fans will revisit the story of The Winchesters again in some form. Misha Collins also shared his reaction to the cancellation news. He admitted that he wanted to try out for the role of Castiel.

CW Spoilers – Continues To Axe Other Shows

The Winchesters weren’t the only show that The CW canceled. Other shows include All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, and Superman & Lois. The writers’ strike might’ve impacted this decision as well.

The network hinted that they want to bring more unscripted shows to the forefront. The writers’ strike has made it difficult for networks, streaming services, and production companies to move forward with scripted television. However, The CW still has other low-cost program options in the works.
