The Good Doctor spoilers and updates tease season 4 finale sealed the exit of a fan favorite. Antonia Thomas, who portrays the role of Dr. Claire Brown, left the show after four seasons.

Thomas’s character left her job at St. Bonaventure. She enjoyed the time she spent working in Guatemala and decided to stay and work there for good. The move paved the way for Thomas’s departure from the show.

In an interview with Deadline, Thomas revealed that leaving the show was a difficult decision for her, especially because the last four years she had been absolutely incredible. She thanked David Shore and the show writers for giving her the opportunity to play Claire. She described her character as “layered, complicated, and flawed.” She believes that her role is one of those things that an actress would dream and love to play.

“I think, ultimately, for me, it’s about coming to the point where I think we’ve really run the gamut of different things that Claire can have gone through, and I’m now really excited to explore different creative opportunities,” Thomas said.

The actress noted the importance of being versatile and creative. Having spent four years exploring her character has helped her prepare to try something new.

The Good Doctor – Antonia Thomas Decides To Leave The Show

The actress revealed that she made up her mind that it’s time to leave at the end of season 3 when her character lost her mother and Dr. Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez), her love interest.

At that point, she approached the show’s executive producer, David Shore, and told her that she wanted to bring her character to a close at the end of season 4. They discussed their options. They eventually agreed that it’s the right time and came to a decision as to how they can prepare for Claire’s exit.

Thomas explained that her character has reached a point when she’s finally at peace with herself. She reconciled with her father and now knows where she wants to go next.

The Good Doctor – Will She Return To The Show?

If given the chance, Thomas said she’s open to reprising her role in the future. She added that she loves the idea of being able to explore new things while being able to shoot the show.

“It has not been an easy decision for me to leave, so I absolutely would love to come back every now and then and say hi… I’m very much looking forward to that,” she said.
