Thirtysomething Reboot Casts Supergirl Alum Chris Wood

Thirtysomething Reboot Casts Supergirl Alum Chris WoodABC’s Thirtysomething sequel casts Supergirl alum Chris Wood. He will play the role of Leo Steadman, the grown-up son of Mel Harris’ and Ken Olin’s characters. Thirtysomething(else) will follow the adult children of characters from the Emmy-winning original series that ran from 1987 to 1991.

Aside from Harris and Olin, original series star Patricia Wettig and Timothy Busfield who will also reprise their roles. Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, who created the original series, are executive producing and writing the pilot for Thirtysomething(else). Zwick will also direct the series.

Deadline was the first to reveal the following detail about Wood’s role in the upcoming ABC series: “Wood will play Leo Steadman, Hope, and Michael’s son and Janey’s brother. Good-looking and charming (not unlike his father), Leo is so intent on becoming a ‘big deal’ like his father that he skips steps along the way. His talent and grand ideas are tripped up by his lack of focus and follow-through.”

Thirtysomething(else) is a co-production of ABC Studios and MGM Television, which also produced and aired the original series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke explained to reporters at January’s TV critic press tour that they have already found writers. They also revealed that the pilot is “gearing up for series.”

“Ed and Marshall really have a vision for the narrative and anything’s possible, really,” Burke said. .”… They know these characters in their bones, and their children are thirtysomething themselves, not just the children on the show, so they are creating characters in that generation that they also know and can relate to. So it’s really a true definition of a multigenerational [story].”

The sequel series is getting closer to fruition. ABC wants to move ahead with the follow-up to the 80s drama as soon as possible. Even the title sounds more annoying than the original.
