This Is Us Spoilers: Series Creator Confirmed Introduction of New Character

This Is Us boss has confirmed the possibility of a new character coming to the hit NBC series. As if most of the characters in this series didn’t have enough drama to deal with, someone else is going to stir up some trouble. Deja and Malik are the next couples that’s going to face another obstacle in their relationship. This Is Us series creator Dan Fogelman revealed that he’s planning to introduce a new character who could cause tensions between the two.

Who’s this mysterious new character? It’ll be the mother of Malik’s daughter Janelle who’s been MIA for years. The new character could be introduced as soon as this season, so fans won’t have to wait too long. However, little is known about this character at the moment. The only thing This Is Us fans know is that she gave full parental rights over to Malik. Fogelman did reveal that when the character does enter the picture, the storyline will not focus on her relationship with Malik.

Instead, it’ll be about how Deja feels about this situation. This is what could cause tension between the couple. This woman is not just Malik’s ex-girlfriend. She’s the mother of his child, which is a very big deal. Malik’s child is his entire world. He has devoted his life and energy to his child. And now his baby mama could be back in his life again. This is what causes Deja to stress out. This understandably becomes an uncomfortable situation for the couple who just started their relationship.

It’s bad enough that Deja’s parents want her to stop seeing Malik. They believe he’s way too mature for her. They also agree that he’s a troubled teenage boy who’s causing her to make poor decisions, such as skipping school. Nonetheless, the teen power couple has its share of shippers on social media. Some fans have compared them to the likes of Kevin Arnold and Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years.

The couple has already overcome one obstacle this week – Deja’s parents. Despite their wishes, they encouraged the couple to continue their relationship and to take things slow. Earlier this week, Fogelman made time for a Q&A session with This Is Us fans. He revealed that the reason why he loves Deja and Malik’s storyline is that the audience is watching a young couple fall in love. It’s a story that everyone can relate to. Fogelman also assured fans that nothing “dramatic” will happen to them as a result.
