'TLC '90 Day Fiancé - Happily Ever After?' Spoilers: Kalani And Asuelu: Will Their Cultural Differences Tear Them Apart?TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé – Happily Ever After?” couple Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa appear to be having some cultural differences in the newest episode “Caught In The Crossfire”; will they be able to overcome them, or will they tear them apart?

Kalani Is Stuck In The House With The Kids And Asuelu Is Playing Volleyball With His Friends

As viewers undoubtedly have noticed, Kalani is stuck in the house with the kids, Kennedy and Oliver, and Asuelu is out playing volleyball with his friends, who consist of other Samoan nationals in Kalani’s home in Orange County, California where they live. Kennedy and Oliver are both “littles”, fifteen months apart, making Oliver two-ish and Kennedy just over one.

That’s two toddlers close in age that Kalani has to wrangle plus is expected to handle all the housework herself – and that is where Asuelu and Kalani’s culture differences come into play and what is causing the conflict between the two of them.

Kalani wants Asuelu to be a modern man and father, splitting chores equally and taking care of the children equally, even though he works and she is a stay at home mom, and Asuelu grew up in a culture much like America was in the 1950s, with the man being the breadwinner, the woman caring for the children and the house, and the man having buddies he could hang out with and the woman’s world being her children – and her husband, of course.

She is just plain worn out most of the time and doesn’t like not having a life outside of cleaning the house, cooking meals, and tracking down rowdy toddlers, which at the age that Kennedy and Oliver are, are usually into everything!

Two Worlds Collide

Two different worlds are literally colliding over Asuelu being homesick for Samoa and hanging out with his Samoan friends helping out, and Kalani being in need of attention from him, as well as help with the household chores and the family. Kalani’s own father is of the opinion that Asuelu is acting like a teenager, hanging out with his friends when he should be spending time with his family and taking responsibility for their wellbeing over his hobbies and his hanging-out friends.

This is a lot of pressure on Asuelu, and he doesn’t seem to get it that in America, things are different and there are many different expectations of a man and what he is to be to his wife and children and what his responsibilities are. He doesn’t have a problem with the responsibilities of working and providing, per se, but as viewers see him discussing with his volleyball friends in the sneak peek first look “Caught In The Crossfire”, things are different in Samoa.

They appear to agree with him, and getting that kind of support from them as opposed to criticism at home could eventually drive him away as Kalani could appear “too needy”. The trouble is, in America, she has every right to her so-called “neediness” and more than just financial support from Asuelu!
