Y&R created flashback scenes in recent years that used younger actors to portray Abbott’s in the years prior to when the show debuted. Through those wonderful episodes viewers learned that Jack had an emotionally turbulent childhood, as his mother, the then Dina Abbott (Marla Adams), left his father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), to pursue a life of her own.
Jack helped to care for his younger sisters, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), which played a significant role in influencing the fierce family stances he would often take through adulthood.

Bergman has appeared as himself on an episode of The Nanny in 1997. Jack was seen on some episodes of Y&R’s spinoff show, The Bold and the Beautiful, in 1998, and on an episode of The King of Queens in 2001. Bergman also had a role in the 2005 movie short The Return of the Muskrats.

What has already been a fabulously conceived and delivered arc by all involved, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, is clearly leading to a memorable write-out for Dina. Bergman’s performances, as they’ve always been, are expected to be outstanding as this storyline picks up, hopefully later this summer.
