After A 13-Year Successful Run, It’s Time to Say Goodbye To “The Wendy Williams” Show

If you want celebrity drama, there’s nowhere else to go than “The Wendy Williams” show. Now, there truly will be nowhere else to go with the iconic and largely successful series drawing to an iconic close 13 years since it ran its first episode.

Wendy Williams’ – Self-titled Show, Known To Stir Up Drama With Celebrities, Is Coming To An End

Wendy Williams has been hosting her self-titled syndicated daytime talk show since 2008, occasionally stirring up drama between fellow celebrities by her more outrageous gossips.

After nearly 14 years, the show is finally drawing to a worthy close. “The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday, June 17th, with a video tribute to the iconic host,” a spokesperson for the show told PEOPLE after Variety exclusively broke the news. “The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication.”

Williams has been battling with health issues, which limited the workflow of her eponymous talk show. A source told PEOPLE in February: “Wendy won’t be returning to the show for the rest of this season”, though Wendy Williams later confirmed to GMA that she will be back for the show’s final episodes.

“I’m going to be back on the Wendy show,” she shared in March. “Bigger and brighter than ever.”

Health Issues Delayed “The Wendy Williams” 13th Season Return

Ahead of the talkshow’s premiere in October 2021, Williams’ Covid-19 case, along with other ongoing health issues, tied to Graves’ disease, delayed the show from resuming at its appointed time.

“Her healing is going slower than everyone had hoped. She continues to deal with a number of medical issues, including Graves’ disease, and she and her team are taking it one day at a time,” a source close to her disclosed at the time.

Formerly a New York radio DJ, she’s been known to push the buttons of celebrities with her Hot Topics. In recent years, she’s made controversial statements about Dione Warwick, Joaquin Phoenix and Meghan Markle. Williams went on a hiatus from the show in March 2018 as a result of complications with her Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism.

“It came from me neglecting my six month endocrinology appointment,” she told PEOPLE in 2018. “I have Graves’ disease and hyperthyroid. If you have one you don’t necessarily have to have the other, but I have both, and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago.”

In early 2019, she was forced to take a six-week break when she fractured her shoulder. She later said that she would be focusing on her sobriety during her leave of absence. However, a few weeks later, she filed for divorce from her husband of 22 years, Kevin Hunter, after rumors surfaced that he impregnated another woman.

She went ahead and removed Hunter as the executive producer of her show shortly after she filed for divorce. He held the title since the show premiered and also co-owned her company, Wendy Williams Productions.

Recently, Williams inspired a Lifetime biopic titled “Wendy Williams: What a Mess!”
