Is Mark Harmon Returning To NCIS?

NCIS spoilers, news, and updates tease that fans may see Mark Harmon reprise his role as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Did the actor drop a hint of a possible return in the future?

Harmon has been playing the role of Gibbs for almost 20 years before leaving the series at the start of season 19. In his exit episode, Gibbs and NCIS Senior Field Agent Timothy McGee traveled to Alaska for a case. But only the latter returned to Washington, D.C.

In a previous interview with TV Insider earlier this year, Rocky Carroll, who plays NCIS Director Leon Vance, dropped a hint that Gibbs may return in the future.

“I think as long as this show stays on the air, there will always be a little bit of a tease that we might see Gibbs again. First time I saw an episode of this show, I said, oh, it’s Gary Cooper from High Noon. Gibbs is the moral compass. He’s the moral compass that we all wish we had,” he said.

Harmon also teased a possible return in a special featurette for the NCIS season 19 DVD.

“I’m not retired… The character is living in Alaska as far as I know,” he said.

NCIS executive producer and showrunner Steven D. Binder is also optimistic about Gibb’s return in future seasons. In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, BGinder said that Harmon remains an integral part of the show.

“So regarding the future of Gibbs, as longtime fans of the show may have noticed over the years… never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out,” he hinted.

Mark Harmon’s departure from NCIS after 19 seasons was recently discussed in a special featurette on the NCIS season 19 DVD. According to the actor, he felt it was time to move on in order to “keep it fresh” in his career.

Harmon explained that he has always been drawn to his character and wanted to ensure that the role remained challenging and exciting for him. He also noted that his character had taken an honest and acceptable path.

In the clip, the actor can be seen wearing an orange jumpsuit with his hair all gone. He just wanted to tell his followers that he’s extremely proud of the episode they shot. He went on to say that the “season finale is out of control and is something the show has never done before.”
