Better Call Saul Renewed For Sixth and Final Season – What to Expect

Better Call Saul has been renewed for its sixth and final season on AMC. Production will begin for the final 13 episodes and will air in 2021. The Breaking Bad spin-off series will come to an end and the latest news was announced by showrunner Peter Gould and co-creator Vince Gilligan during the Television Critics’ Association winter press tour panel, as reported via Variety. The news broke ahead of the Season 5 premiere, which is expected to air on Feb. 23.

During the event, Gould revealed that several Breaking Bad characters will return for Season 5 of Better Call Saul. Some of those characters include Dean Norris who will reprise the role of Hank Schrader and Steven Michael Quezada, who will reprise his role as Norris’ DEA partner Steven Gomez.

Gould vehemently stated that neither Aaron Paul nor Bryan Cranston will make an appearance in the final season. Gilligan was asked if he would continue the Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad universe, especially with the latest Breaking Bad movie, El Camino.

“From the beginning when we started his, I think all our hopes and dreams were to be able to tell the whole story … and make it be a complete story from beginning to end,” Gould revealed on Thursday, Jan. 16. “We’re going to try like hell to stick the landing of these 63 episodes.” Better Call Saul is a series that’s set before Breaking Bad and centers around con man turned lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), who transforms himself into Saul Goodman. The series also features other Breaking Bad characters from Esposito and Jonathan Banks.

During the panel, the Breaking Bad universe was then compared to the Star Wars universe. This caused Jonathan Banks to say, “All good stories come to an end…who cares about Star Wars?” “He’s in it?” Rhea Seehorn said while pointing and laughing at Esposito, who currently stars in The Mandalorian on Disney Plus. Season 5 of Better Call Saul airs Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 p.m. ET. The second episode will immediately follow-up on Monday night, Feb. 24, in the show’s regular time slot at 9 p.m. ET.
