The Golden Bachelor spoilers reveal Gerry Turner entering the land of TMI (Too Much Information). And the 72-year-old just admitted that he took his very first STD test in order to star on the reality TV show.
But Turner’s sexual health education didn’t end there. Keep reading for all the details.
Golden Bachelor Spoilers – Gerry Turner Learns About STD Tests
At 72, Gerry Turner took his very first STD test as part of the qualification process for the Golden Bachelor. And he confessed via Us that he didn’t even know how STD tests worked.
Amid his appearance on a podcast this week, Turner described how producers contacted him during a Florida vacation. “I was actually traveling with an old girlfriend,” recalled the Golden Bachelor star. “We were just friends. And I got a call from ABC wanting me to initiate the process to go get a STD test.”
But after his 43-year marriage to his late wife Toni, Gerry felt baffled at the news. “That may have been my very first STD test.” And he confessed that he didn’t know “what was gonna happen.”
Turner even speculated that sexual health tests involved everything from looking “in the iris of my eye” to taking “a urine sample [or] a blood sample. I had no idea. Did not know,” he confessed.
Golden Bachelor Spoilers – Vetting Process Gets ‘Ridiculous’
But beyond receiving an education on sexual health checkups, Turner discovered he needed to pass more tests. For instance, the Golden Bachelor star “had to send my fingerprints to the FBI, there were numerous background tests. There was a psychological evaluation that was like 360 questions and then another hour of interview. The vetting process is ridiculously thorough.”
However, Golden Bachelor host Jesse Palmer believes that contestants can’t really prepare themselves for what to expect. And after seeing what happened to Turner, Palmer observed that the Golden Bachelor star’s experience seemed emotional.
“[Gerry’s] the guy that knows what he wants,” Palmer explained. “And I think he was feeling a lot of things and experiencing a lot of things throughout this season for the very first time. And I think navigating this part of the journey was something that I don’t think he or anybody can really prepare for when you find yourself in these moments.”
Golden Bachelor Spoilers – An Emotional Goodbye
The season finale will show Gerry choosing between finalists Leslie Fhima and Theresa Nist. And Palmer warned Golden Bachelor fans to get the tissues ready for an emotion-packed ending.
“Throughout the course of the season, [the goodbyes are] easily the most difficult part. And I think it usually is for most leads, but I think people are really going to see an emotional goodbye come the finale that they just haven’t seen yet. It’s pretty intense,” he shared.
And spoilers reveal Turner confessing that he hadn’t experienced so much emotion since his wife’s death. But Palmer sought to reassure the Golden Bachelor star that the outcome would feel worth it. And he pointed out that when the show concludes, Turner will have chosen “an amazing woman that he gets to spend the rest of his life with.”
However, the show’s host revealed the end seemed “as intense, as real and as raw as it gets. And it was probably the most raw moment that I think I’ve been a part of since hosting the franchise.” The Golden Bachelor season finale airs on ABC Thursday, November 30, at 8 p.m. ET.
