Chicago Fire spoilers reveal a fan favorite returning. But what does it mean when paramedic Sylvie Brett shows up with a ring?
So many questions await answers that the upcoming season 12 premiere of Chicago Fire could easily become an FAQ episode. Find out what to know below.
Chicago Fire Spoilers – A Fan Fave Returns!
Season 12 of Chicago Fire will see the return of fan favorite Jesse Spencer, per TV Insider. But Chicago Fire executive producer Andrea Newman teased what it means that paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) wears a ring on her finger in season 12 premiere pics.
“What? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” joked the executive producer about Brett’s ring. However, last season’s finale revealed Brett’s former boyfriend, firefighter Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), visiting just as Brett focused on adopting a baby whom she met on a call.
And the cliffhanger finale showed Casey proposing. “I got something about a year and a half ago,” he revealed. And as Casey got down on one knee, he confessed, “I wanted to give it to you before I go back to Portland. Sylvie Brett, we were meant to be. Will you make me and three kids the luckiest family in the world and marry me?”

But fans who think they know what will happen after the proposal need to wait, warned Newman. And the Chicago Fire exec producer hinted at what will happen in season 12.
“When we see Brett in the premiere, it’s clear pretty quickly that she has plans in place,” revealed Newman. “And those plans will not go exactly how she wants them to. I will say that as often happens on Chicago Fire and in real life, things will not go exactly as she expects.”
But Brett did achieve one goal. And the Chicago Fire exec producer shared that the adoption “worked out beautifully.” As a result, “Julia is not only a part of Brett’s life now, she’s a part of 51’s life,” noted Newman. And that means fans can look forward to seeing “that little cutie a lot.”
Chicago Fire Spoilers – Welcome Back, Matt Casey!
However, the upcoming exit of Killmer brings even more suspense. And with that departure possibly impacting Brett’s and Casey’s relationship, Newman teased that Brett put “plans in place.” But “it doesn’t all work out,” she added.
“Maybe it works out for the best,” hinted the Chicago Fire exec producer. “But it doesn’t work out exactly how she thinks it’s going to work out.” What does work out: The return of Spencer for season 12. And Newman gushed, “We love Matt Casey. Jesse’s one of my all-time favorites, and we will see him again. There’s a Boden [Eamonn Walker] line in the premiere that’s, ‘Once you’ve been a part of 51, you’re always a part of 51.’ And I think that that speaks to this season quite a bit. And we will see Matt Casey again. Yes.”
But Killmer will definitely leave at some point. However, Newman shared that before that exit, Chicago Fire will feature her in “a lot of great action and heroics in the early part of the season, actually.” The season 12 premiere of Chicago Fire will air Wednesday, January 17, 9/8c, on NBC.
