Kevin Costner and his estranged wife Christine finally completed their divorce drama. But the actor’s followers still want to understand how and why the two went from a divorce that seemingly could last for months to a quick resolution.
Find out what Costner’s rep shared. And keep reading to discover a family law and psychologist’s explanation of the two reasons that the Yellowstone actor and his estranged wife made the right decision.
Kevin Costner – Rep Shares Sudden Divorce Settlement
A rep for Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner told People that the divorce settlement went from appearing to never end to suddenly settled. “Kevin and Christine Costner have come to an amicable and mutually agreed upon resolution,” said the spokesperson. And the statement also noted that the resolution includes “all issues pertaining to their divorce proceedings.”
However, the abrupt conclusion to the former couple’s battle that came in the wake of Christine filing for divorce in May 1 baffled some. But David Glass, a California-based family law attorney and former psychologist, revealed the two most likely reasons for the sudden settlement. And he pointed to what happened to Christine’s demands for child support.
Kevin’s estranged wife “didn’t do well” in court, noted Glass. And because she only received a “third of the (child) support she wanted,” the attorney thinks that Christine got a reality check. She also did not receive her “award for fees.” And Glass believes that when Christine learned the court would uphold the “prenuptial agreement,” she began “considering, do I really want to litigate the rest of this?”

Kevin Costner – Faces ‘Money Situation’
But while Glass thinks Christine settled when she realized she could not win, the attorney believes Costner faced “just a money situation. How much is it going to cost for him to go all the way through trial? How much time?”
And Glass thinks that Costner wanted to end the “pressure on him and distraction from his career and his kids.” As a result, the actor figured out “what he could pay to be done with it.” But beyond finances, Kevin and Christine faced an ever-widening media spotlight on their divorce.
For instance, the actor needed to go into elaborate detail on his income. And Christine faced scrutiny with her argument that luxury had become embedded in their children’s “DNA at this point.” That media scrutiny resulted in the second reason for the quick divorce settlement.
Kevin Costner – Focuses On His Kids
But Glass believes that the former couple went about their divorce the wrong way. And he explained, “Most celebrity or high-profile clients go to their attorneys. And their attorneys explain, ‘Listen, we should settle this because you don’t want any of this in the news. You can either settle it or you can go to a private judge to keep it out of the news cycle.’ And they didn’t do any of those things, which just doesn’t make sense.”
However, after the couple faced scrutiny, Glass think that the two felt “like a wrung out rag.” And it all cost them “a ton of money.” As a result, the attorney feels that the two decided to halt their court wars. And the settlement means that Christine will receive around $1.5 million based on the prenup. An insider shared that Costner feels “relieved that this matter has been settled and will continue to focus solely on jointly raising their three children.”
