Gabby Petito’s Parents Want To Move On And “Close This Chapter of Our Lives” With Settlement

It’s a nightmare situation to hear that your daughter, who is on a cross-country trip with her boyfriend, have just been murdered, and even more so, when it’s said boyfriend that committed such heinous act.

The story of Gabby Petito was one of much interest to the public and one which parents, undoubtedly, would hope to instruct young people on the dangers of undertaking such trips.

Whatever anyone may feel in relation to such a fantastic case, what’s done is done, and Gabby’s parents could not wish to move on from it too soon.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Gabby and Brian’s parents have reached a “reluctant” agreement. While the details of the sensitive case were not brought to the light, Gabby’s parents did issue a statement rejoicing in its end via their attorney.

“All parties reluctantly agreed in order to avoid further legal expenses and prolonged personal conflict,” Gabby’s parents, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, said in the statement.

“Our hope is to close this chapter of our lives to allow us to move on and continue to honor the legacy of our beautiful daughter, Gabby,” they said.

Why Gabby Petito’s Parents Sued Brian Laundrie’s Parents

Gabby, 22, was documenting her cross-country road trip with boyfriend, 23, when she mysteriously disappeared.

At the time of her disappearance, Brian, who returned to Florida in the van without her, was said to be a “person of interest.”

On Sept. 19, Gabby’s body was found in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. Nearly a month later, Brian’s body was found dead in a swampy part of Florida on Oct. 20.

He’d already written a note taking the responsibility for Gabby’s death. In light of this, Gabby’s parents and their lawyer, Steven Bertolino, sued Brian’s parents for intentional and reckless infliction of emotional distress.

They alleged that Brian’s parents knew that their daughter was dead, even when they issued messages of hope that she’ll be found.

A wrongful death lawsuit was previously settled and a judge awarded the Petito family $3 million in 2022.
