According to a new report, President-elect Trump is “100% serious” about acquiring the Panama Canal and Greenland according to a source who spoke with the New York Post. The source says Trump wants Greenland along with the Panama Canal to counter Chinese and Russian threats.

During Trump’s first administration, Trump studied how a negotiation and takeover of Greenland would go down which was floated to Denmark in 2019. However, the proposal was shut down at the time.

Sources say the first step of acquiring Greenland is winning over their residents. “People are acting like it’s a crazy thing, and it’s not at all,” former Treasury Department official Thomas Dans told the Post.

If that weren’t enough, Dans mentioned how the acquisition of Alaska was initially mocked. “Everything’s for sale for the right price… Trump is definitely not trolling. He is signaling the serious [nature] and the gravity of what it means to have an ambitious America and what it means to have leadership on stage,” another source told the Post.

What’s Next For Donald Trump And His Administration?

“In my conversations with incoming and former national security officials, this is a direct message to China,” the source said on the Greenland and Panama comments.

It goes without saying that the internet certainly did have a lot to say about the matter. 

Some even commented with, “Trump is always very aggressive with his opening statements on what he wants. The President of Panama responded, but we all know this is a negotiation and the US will take ownership.”

Another critic wrote, “It’s not widely known, but the reason Trump wants Greenland is that Greenland is very rich in rare earth minerals, even richer than China. Although it might be difficult to mine, there is a huge stockpile of rare earth minerals there that are used in computer chips, batteries, and just about all electronics today.”

And then there was this comment as well: “A strong strategic move by Trump. China built the largest port in South America located in Peru. It’s opened a direct trade route with South America and China, cutting out USA as the middle man.’”
