“The recent ‘documentary’ that talks about our family is sad,” claimed Jim Bob and Michelle. And they attacked the series for exposing the family’s scandals. “Because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions hurting people we love. Like other families, ours too has experienced the joys and heartbreaks of life, just in a very public format,” added the 19 Kids And Counting alums. “This ‘documentary’ paints so much and so many in a derogatory and sensationalized way because sadly that’s the direction of entertainment these days.”

However, Michelle and Jim Bob also shared that they plan to keep any attempts to reconcile private. And the Duggar patriarch, 57, and matriarch, 56, explained why. The reality TV alums shared that they “have always believed that the best chance to repair damaged relationships, or to reconcile differences, is through love in a private setting. We love every member of our family and will continue to do all we can to have a good relationship with each one,” they added.

But the Duggars also shared that their struggles amid the family’s scandals have caused them to hold onto their religious beliefs. And their statement continued, “Through both the triumphs and the trials we have clung to our faith all the more. And [we] discovered that through the love and grace of Jesus, we find strength, comfort, and purpose.”

Shiny Happy People, which debuted Friday on Prime Video, consists of a four-part limited documentary series. And it exposes the 19 Kids And Counting clan’s various scandals in depth. However, the series also explores the Duggars’ religion, the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP). And several members of the Duggar family appear in the series.  Jill (Duggar) Dillard and her husband Derick Dillard, Amy (Duggar) King and her husband Dillon King, and Jim Bob’s sister Deanna Jordan star in Shiny Happy People.

But the documentary also explores the scandals involving Jim Bob and Michelle’s oldest child, Josh Duggar. Now 35, Josh confessed that he sexually abused several young girls in his early teens. And those girls included Jill, 32, and Jessa (Duggar) Seewald, 30. In addition, Josh admitted that he cheated on his wife Anna Duggar, 34. He met a woman on the website designed for infidelity, Ashley Madison, and paid for an affair. Most recently, Josh began serving a prison sentence after guilty verdicts for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse materials.
