How The Grifter’s Line Tarnished Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Brand

2024 is the year Prince Harry and Meghan hope will be a redemptive year for their brand. After taking most of 2023 to rebrand, the couple are hoping that they can finally be accepted as serious public figures this time round. However, a royal expert believes their brand took a major hit for this reason.

Spotify Exec Bill Simmons “Tarnished” Harry and Meghan’s Brand With “Grifters” Line

Last year wasn’t a necessarily fun one for the Sussexes, who lost their deal with Spotify in the most unceremonial of ways.

After their over $20 million Spotify deal was axed, the former royals were named “f**king grifters” by a high-ranking Spotify exec for not meeting “productivity requirements.”

How The Grifter's Line Tarnished Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Brand

In an interview with Closer, royal expert Tom Bower said: “Of course they’ve lost their big Spotify contract – one of the big contracts that was clearly going to be their basis for fame. The ‘grifters’ line has tarnished them for life.”

Speaking on his own podcast, Bill Simmons, who serves as the Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization at Spotify, ranted about the couple.

He said: “I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. “‘The F***ing Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched with them. I have got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea.”

He concluded: “It’s one of my best stories … F*** them. The grifters.”

The Sussex brand has been on the skids for a while now, with Meghan’s WME signing said to be on the edge as well.

Plans to revive The Tig has either fallen through or been pushed back and Meghan hasn’t been able to close a deal with a major fashion brand as an ambassador.

While there’s a lot of different accounts by different sources, it’s believed that 2024 could well be the year that’ll make or break the Sussex brand.

If they can go a whole year without mentioning the Royal Family and stick to their rebranding plans, it may be the beginning of a successful brand for the controversial couple.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
