The original show aired on The Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004. It was also made into a feature film. In the reboot, the main character is about to turn 30. That’s 15 years after the show ended. So what can fans expect from Lizzie? Speaking to Vulture last September, Hilary Duff shared some teasers.

According to Duff’s interview with Vulture, she is living in Brooklyn and working at her dream job as an apprentice to a designer. Lizzie will be in what seems like a fairy tale relationship. She has the perfect job, the perfect man, the perfect life… or does she?

Hilary Duff: Premiere Episode Delivers Bombshell

The actress teased that Lizzie gets some huge news at the end of the premiere episode. It is hinted that the bombshell will shatter the illusion of her perfect world. In fact, it will send her from New York City back to Los Angeles. Whatever she discovers will force her to get out of town… literally.

The Lizzie McGuire reboot synopsis states that the character will get some help from her family, friends and her animated 13-year-old alter ego. With their support, she is able to get through the rollercoaster of adult life.

TV Reboot News: Original Characters Returning

In addition to Lizzie McGuire, expect to see some other familiar faces. Her parents, Sam McGuire (Robert Carradine) and Jo McGuire (Hallie Todd) will return. Her brother Matt McGuire (Jake Thomas) will also appear in the television show.

Fans will also see one of Lizzie’s best friends come back. No, it’s not Miranda (her return status is unknown at this time.) It’s her other BFF, Gordo (Adam Lambert). For those that never watched the movie, Gordo ended up being her love interest. Hilary said that Gordo is essential to the reboot and fans will see how he fits into adult Lizzie’s world. However, it won’t be in a romantic way.

“I feel like them not being together is what was so good … it’s that one person that you’re like, ‘Was he the one? Is it ever going to be?’ You’re always kind of wondering.”

The series creator Terri Minskey is also coming back as showrunner.

Lizzie McGuire Reboot: Premiere Episode Details

According to Newsweek, the title of the premiere is “13 Going on 30” and will air on the Disney+ streaming platform. A premiere date has not yet been announced. However, production on the TV reboot began in October 2019. This means the earliest we will see it on the small screen is summer 2020.
