Kevin Costner spoke out about a possible return to Yellowstone. The Paramount Plus series is filming the second part of its Season 5 finale. The actor butted heads with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan.
Those issues came to light at the height of his public divorce. Despite what happened, Costner admitted he would return to the show. However, it would happen on one condition. Read on to see what he had to say.
Kevin Costner – Considers Yellowstone Return
Kevin Costner’s experience with Yellowstone might’ve not been perfect. Yet, he’s willing to return to the popular cowboy drama. There was public drama about his involvement with the series.
Costner appeared on the Today Show on Monday, June 17. He told Savannah Guthrie that he’s not opposed to returning.
“I’ve supported that thing and I’ve loved it,” Costner exclaimed. “It’s been really important to me. I would love to go back under the right circumstances I think that all of us want. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances. Saying there’s a chance, there’s always a chance. I love the thing. You’ve got to be really clear about that.”
Kevin Costner enjoyed being on the set of the show. He played the role of John Dutton for five seasons. Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and achieved massive success. It was one of the most successful series on the streaming platform. The first half of Season 5 aired in 2022, and the second half will air later this year.
Contract To Play John Dutton
In his interview with Deadline, Costner shared that he negotiated with the show for several months. He was initially to play the character for seasons five, six, and seven. The contract negotiations changed into one appearance for seasons 5A and 5B.
Kevin Costner told Deadline that he followed the “truth of the contract.” He didn’t film the second half of the season since there wasn’t a script at the time. Both the Hollywood writers and actors were on strike.
“Number one, I did it for five years, OK, and I want to work more than once a year,” Costner shared on the Today Show. “We lost an entire year at one point and I thought, ‘Well, that can’t ever happen again.’ It was well over a year.”
The lack of scripts made the second half of the season impossible to film. The show has faced controversy for behind-the-scenes issues, such as not paying fair wages.
