Taylor Sheridan Canceled Yellowstone Before Arrival Of Long-Lost Dutton Son

Taylor Sheridan always keeps things interesting with the series he creates including Yellowstone. For this reason, he was about to introduce yet another Dutton son to the mix, probably in season 6. However, as fans of the modern Western show know, it will end with part two of season 5, meaning they never got to meet the mysterious Dutton son.

Yellowstone canceled before new character arrives

Fans have been through the whole rigmarole of Yellowstone and Kevin Costner, leading to the cancelation after season 5. The second half of season 5 will likely see John Dutton die as Costner’s perfect way to leave.

However, while John Dutton III will likely die, plans were still strong for a sixth season of the modern Western show. As fans know, Sheridan wasn’t originally canceling Yellowstone after season 5, but he never revealed any new plans or cast members should it continue.

However, it turns out Sheridan was about to add a mysterious Dutton son to the mix. This interesting fact came out of a recent interview with the actor set to play that son.

Who would have played the ‘long-lost Dutton brother’

The story was reported by Taste of Country, where Christian singer Cory Asbury was about to join the show for season 6, playing the “long-lost Dutton brother.” Cory is a GMA Dove Award-winning singer, who revealed he was set to join Yellowstone, but it was cancelled.

According to Asbury, he was “fired up about it and so bummed when it was canceled.” Speaking to Dutton Rules podcast host Adison Haager in an Instagram Q&A, he revealed something very interesting, saying, “I was supposed to be Kayce’s long-lost brother.”

Moving to Montana for Yellowstone

According to Asbury, the offer was serious, but he had to talk it over with his family. However, equally excited, his family gave him the go-ahead. Due to this, Cory was getting ready to move his family to Montana. He said:

We were gonna move to Montana for a full year. We were ready… Anna gave me the OK and our kids were like, ‘Ok, cool, we’ll live in Montana.’

Moreover, he was set to meet with Taylor Sheridan and Luke Grimes, but now the show is canceled, that won’t happen. Previously, Cory couldn’t say anything about the new role, but now it’s canceled, he has opened up about his intended role as a Dutton son. Naturally, this makes fans disappointed by the cancelation all over again.

This leaves us wondering who this mysterious son was and where had he been prior to his appearance. Possibly, John Dutton III had a child with another woman. Alternatively, did the Dutton couple give up their son for adoption? Sadly, we will probably never know more of the story.

After all the delays, part 2 of season 5 of Yellowstone is set to finally drop in November 2024. Sadly, we will probably have lost the thread of the season by then.
